Qué esWhat it is
Es un polisacárido que se obtiene por fermentación de azúcares. Al hidratarse forma un gel que se vuelve más fluido al moverlo (por eso un champú espeso sale fácil del frasco) y vuelve a espesar en reposo. Aguanta bien los cambios de pH y de temperatura, y la sal.It is a polysaccharide made by fermenting sugars. Once hydrated it forms a gel that thins when moved (which is why a thick shampoo pours easily) and thickens again at rest. It handles changes in pH, temperature and salt well.

Cómo se usaHow to use it
- Para que no haga grumos, mézclala primero con glicerina o propilenglicol (3 partes por 1 de goma) hasta formar una pasta.To avoid lumps, first mix it with glycerin or propylene glycol (3 parts to 1 part gum) into a paste.
- Agrega esa pasta al agua mientras mezclas rápido, o espolvorea la goma poco a poco sobre el agua en movimiento.Add the paste to the water while mixing fast, or sprinkle the gum slowly onto moving water.
- Deja que se hidrate unos minutos y vuelve a mezclar. Si quedan grumos, déjala reposar 30 minutos o una noche: se terminan de hidratar.Let it hydrate for a few minutes and mix again. If lumps remain, let it rest 30 minutes or overnight: they finish hydrating.
- Puedes hacerlo en frío o con el agua a 40–70 °C.You can do it cold or with the water at 40–70 °C.

- Más de 1 % da una textura gomosa y puede dejar sensación pegajosa. Combínala con otras gomas o con carbómero para mejorar el tacto.Above 1% the texture turns gummy and can feel sticky. Combine it with other gums or carbomer for a better feel.
- El gel queda un poco turbio; para un gel transparente usa carbómero.The gel is slightly hazy; for a clear gel use carbomer.
- Un gel con agua necesita conservante.A water-based gel needs a preservative.
- No la eches en polvo directo a un champú ya hecho: se forman grumos.Do not add the powder straight into a finished shampoo: it will clump.

- Goma guarGuar gum Espesa de forma parecida; buena en champús. Aguanta peor la sal.Thickens in a similar way; good in shampoos. Handles salt less well.
- Carbómero 940Carbomer 940 Para geles transparentes. Hay que neutralizarlo con una base para que espese.For clear gels. It must be neutralised with a base to thicken.
